Skilled – Independent

If you do not have a blood relative in Australia, this would be the most suitable category for you. You need to score a minimum of 115 points in the points test to be eligible to apply.

The requirements for this visa are:

  • You are also generally required to have recent work experience in a skilled occupation - the exact amount will depend on your occupation. If you have recently completed an Australian qualification, you may be exempt from this requirement.
  • You must have at least vocational ability in English - you may be required to sit an English language exam to establish this.
  • You must pass a skilled migration points test, which you can try online from our site.
  • You must be under 45 years of age when you apply.
  • All family members must pass health and character checks.

Skilled – Australian Sponsored

You could be able to apply under this category, if you have a blood relative in Australia who lives outside one of the designated areas and you are related to him/her as a

  • a non-dependent child (natural, adoptive or step-child) or
  • a parent or
  • a brother or sister (natural, adoptive or step-sibling) or
  • a niece or nephew (natural, adoptive or step-niece or nephew)

The pass mark is lower at 110 for this category and the pool mark is set at 105

All the other criteria are the same as skilled-independent category.
