Q: As a foreign student at the local universities or polytechnics with a student pass, can I do part-time work during term time?
Ans.Full-time undergraduates of Polytechnics and Universities are allowed to work part-time of up to 16 hours per week during school term. However, they need to obtain permission from the Student's Liaison/Affairs Office of their respective Polytechnics and Universities. During their vacations, they are allowed to work full-time as the Ministry of Manpower has exempted them from applying for work permits.

Please note that other international students are generally not allowed to engage in any form of employment, whether paid or unpaid, or in any business, profession or occupation in Singapore during the validity of their Student's Pass, unless they have the consent in writing from the Controller of Immigration. Violators will be prosecuted by law.

Q:How long will it take to get a Student's Pass?
Ans. It takes 4-6 weeks to get Student's Pass approval. During this period, you may apply at the Student's Pass section for a temporary visa to stay in Singapore while waiting for the results. This, however, is subject to approval by the Singapore Immigration Department.

Q:Do I need a local sponsor to apply for a Student's Pass?
Ans: You must have a local sponsor (who is a Singapore citizen/Permanent Resident or a school) in order to apply for a Student's Pass.

Q:Can the school act as sponsor for my Student's Pass application?

Q:When is the application period to get into a local government school?
Ans: Foreign student applications are accepted from the month of June onwards, for admission in the following year beginning in January.

Q:When is the closing date for submission of application?
Ans: The closing date for submission of application for a particular year is 31 May of that year. If the foreign student is unable to obtain a confirmed vacancy by 30 June, the admission will be for the following school year beginning in January.

Q:Can I enter into a local school without sitting for the entrance examination?
Ans: No, all foreign students must sit and pass the school entrance examination. Only children of holders of valid Employment Passes and Skilled Work Permits are exempted from this procedure.

Q:Can I choose the level of admission?
Ans: No. Besides, the performance in the assessment test, you will be considered for admission to a level subject to documentary proof that you have completed the previous level and subject to the age criteria given by the Singapore Ministry of Education for admission into a local Government School.

Q:Can I be exempted from taking Chinese, Malay or Tamil as a Mother Tongue Language?
Ans: Yes, but the exemption is considered on a case-by-case basis after you have been admitted to school.

Ans: Yes, you can apply through the school principal to take Thai Language as a Foreign Language in lieu of the Mother Tongue at GCE 'O' Level Examination. Our Centre is the only private school that has been approved by the Ministry of Education to offer the Thai Language Preparatory Course for GCE 'O' Level Examination.

Q:Can I be admitted to Pre-University Course?
Ans: Yes, you must produce your GCE 'O' Level results slip/certificate or its equivalence.

Q:When is the donation to the Education Fund be made?
Ans: A foreign student is requested to make biannual donations (that is payable once every two years) to the Education Fund of the Ministry of Education if his/her application to study in Singapore is approved. The flat rate of S$1,000 for every 2 years of study is payable before admission to school. Thereafter, the donation is payable in advance, every two years.

Q:Is the donation to the Education Fund refundable?
Ans: No, the donation is not refundable except when you are awarded a Singapore Government scholarship in the year of admission or when you have not attended any lessons in school.
